Colorido y con tintes distópicos, Our Bed is Green se sitúa en un momento, quizás no muy lejano en el futuro, en que se pueden generar avatares virtuales de personas con las que nos apetece estar. La protagonista, melancólica y reflexiva, como inmersa en un mundo de su propia creación, se dirige a una tienda de avatares; la acompañamos en su aventura virtual y, más tarde, en su vuelta al mundo real.

Con una animación vibrante y llena de texturas, el corto se apoya en una apuesta visual altamente adictiva para desarrollar una historia que resonará con cualquier usuario de redes sociales en nuestro presente. Si algún día pudiéramos pagar para pasar tiempo con un avatar de alguien a quien deseamos, ¿a quién elegiríamos y por qué?, ¿cómo podríamos seguir desenvolviéndonos en el mundo real cuando una parte muy importante de nosotros vive apegada a un espacio lleno de posibilidades como el mundo virtual?

Colorful and dystopian, Our Bed is Green takes place at a time, perhaps not too far in the future, when virtual avatars of people we want to be with can be generated and bought. The protagonist, melancholic and reflective, as if immersed in a world of her own creation, goes to an avatar shop; we accompany her on her virtual adventure and, later, on her return to the real world.

With a vibrant animation full of textures, the short relies on a highly addictive visual display to develop a story that will resonate with any social media user in our present. If one day we could pay to spend time with an avatar of someone we love, who would we choose and why? How could we continue to function in the real world when a very important part of us lives attached to a space full of possibilities like the virtual world?

Maggie Brennan

Maggie Brennan is an animator, cartoonist, and musician. She grew up on Long Island and lives in Queens. Her animated shorts have been screened in competition by numerous festivals such as SXSW, SIFF, and Palm Springs ShortsFest. As a cartoonist, she has been published by several outlets including The New Yorker, The Fader, and Inverse. She has also created and directed animation work for a variety of commercial, corporate, and educational clients.
